The Chase Center is a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment facility in San Francisco, CA – home to the 7-time NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors. Built via a joint venture between Mortenson and Clark construction in 2019, this 18,000-seat arena is a crown-jewel of the Mission Bay district of San Francisco. From its light-colored roofing mitigating heat island impact to its grey water system collecting storm water, no detail went unnoticed during the construction. In achieving LEED gold certification for building design and construction, the arena installed LED occupancy lighting, low-flow fixtures in the restrooms, diverted over 87% of construction waste, and offset more than 70% of energy use during construction, mostly from wind-driven sources. Join us on a tour of this outstanding campus to get a first-hand look of the finer details inside this unique facility.
Learning Objectives:
Tour visitors will understand the strategies and outcomes related to Energy and Atmosphere credits achieved including an overview of the Indirect-Direct Evaporative Cooling air handling units and how they achieved the EAc3 Enhanced commissioning credit on the project to maximize performance in design and construction.
Attendees will see first-hand the strategies employed to achieve 23 out of 26 Sustainable Sites points including the high solar reflective index roof to reduce heat island affect and the myriad of alternative transportation options to get to the site. The project features preferred on-site parking for carpools, low-emitting vehicles, electric vehicle charging stations, an indoor bike valet for 300 bicycles and a corral for over 100 additional bikes during events.
Visitors will get an overview of the innovative systems to reuse graywater and capture stormwater that gets treated onsite to be used in restroom flush fixtures. These strategies helped the team achieve 4 out of 4 Regional priority credits.
Tour attendees will understand how the design team utilized local and recycled materials and how the construction team diverted 87% of construction waste from the landfill to decrease the material impact of the project.
