(E10) Affordable Housing Building Stock Decarbonization and Electrification in NY

NYS's affordable building stock is the hardest to decarbonize due to climate, density, and range of building types. The presentation will outline the bird-eye view and drivers for decarbonization across State, City and NYC's public housing stock. NYS has ambitious policy through the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act of 2019, that requires the state to develop a plan to reduce state carbon emissions 40% by 2030 and at least 85% by 2050. To meet the CLCPA goals, NYS is proposing to decarbonize 2 million homes by 2030, of which 800,000 are in disadvantaged communities. NYC has a similar Climate Mobilization Act with aggressive decarbonization goals. Each one of the panelists from HCR, HPD, and NYCHA will share strategies for using the lens of resident and building health and resiliency to tackle policy, decarbonization methods, and standards-setting to achieve State and City goals, as well as describe how each agency's progress is informing each other's work.
