(SI06) Decarbonizing Our Environments Through Design

What drivers influence the decarbonization of our built environment? In particular which specific architectural design aspects are critical? What magnitude of impact can passive design, site selection, mechanical systems and fundamental specification contribute? How can this all facilitate users and support their environmental goals? These are the key questions the speakers will address in the presentation. Decarbonization in Design expresses a sustainable and healthy architecture. It is the integration of a profound respect for materials, space, people and planet. The presenters illustrate a pathway to the decarbonized built environment through design. This presentation will progress from site selection and orientation, through passive, responsible design concluding with the holistic integrated measurable series of matrix. In exploration of best practices, speakers will familiarize participants on specification in relation to carbon equivalencies through set examples. Each with their own area of expertise, presenters will share from three main perspectives, architectural design, user impact and, engineering with technology.
