Dr. Deborah Barnes is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco. She is internationally recognized for her expertise in the epidemiology of dementia. Her research focuses on: 1) identifying modifiable risk factors for cognitive decline and dementia, such as physical inactivity and social isolation; 2) developing statistical models to identify older adults at risk of dementia and to estimate the potential impact of risk reduction interventions at a societal level; and 3) testing interventions to delay onset of dementia symptoms and to slow decline and maintain quality of life in those who develop symptoms.
