Dr. Beeber is a recognized leader in gerontological nursing and health services research. She is devoted to improving the quality and safety of long-term care and enriching the quality of daily living for older adults residing in these settings. With funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, NIH, and AHRQ, Dr. Beeber has worked on large-scale studies engaging long-term care stakeholders to examine the health services provided in assisted living and nursing homes, and to rapidly intervene to improve the quality of care in these settings. She has conducted research to examine the relationship among staffing, service availability and quality of care outcomes in assisted living, improving the identification and management of medical illnesses by caregivers of older adults with dementia, and studies to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing in nursing homes. Most recently, Dr. Beeber’s R01 funded by AHRQ is using stakeholder engagement to develop a toolkit to increase resident and family engagement in the safety of assisted living. Her expertise includes qualitative methods, nursing care of older adults in long-term care settings, interventions to improve the quality of care in long-term care settings, and research that requires stakeholder engagement. Dr. Beeber also has experience leading an interdisciplinary team to conduct a large-scale survey research in long-term care settings and engaging long-term care staff in research. Dr. Beeber is passionate about inspiring the next generation of nurse and interprofessional scholars to provide innovative care for older adults across care settings.
