Carolyn M. Aldwin is currently the Director of the Gerontology Program in the Colloge of Public Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University. She was the Jo Anne Leonard Endowed Director of the Center for Healthy Aging Research at OSU. She has been President of the Adult Development and Aging Division of the American Psychological Association (APA) and also President of the Society for the Study of Human Development (SSHD). She is a fellow of both the Gerontological Society of the American (GSA) and of the APA Divisions 20 (Adult Development and Aging) and Division 38 (Health Psychology). She is the author or editor of eight books and 150 journal articles and book chapters. Her research addresses three major areas: how stress and coping processes change with age and their positive and negative effects on health and well-being, especially in late life; the long-term effects of trauma, especially among combat veterans; and optimal aging, stress-related growth, and wisdom.
