Dr. Rebecca S. Koszalinski’s clinical practice, teaching, research, and service are focused on the care of persons who have disabilities or require restorative care. Her personal knowledge of disability and rehabilitation significantly underpins her approach to nursing practice and research. After completion of a BSN at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, an MS in Education and Ph.D. at Florida Atlantic University, she accepted an Assistant Professor appointment at the University of Tennessee, followed by an Associate Professor appointment at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. While conducting community-engaged research at OUHSC during the COVID pandemic lockdown, Dr. Koszalinski noted unanticipated negative outcomes of social isolation in older persons living in nursing homes, assisted living, and a rural community. She is now focused on researching the needs of older persons, social isolation/connectedness (Voice) with meaningful use of technology, big data, and secondary analyses. Dr. Koszalinski was awarded a competitive NIIH Intramural Research Training Award, FAES, NIH/NINR Summer Genetics Institute (Class of 2015). She was also recognized by Johnson & Johnson (#nurseschangelives) for a technological innovation (Speak for Myself-Voice) to provide voice to patients who are unable to communicate needs in the community setting and in acute care when unable to articulate. Dr. Koszalinski is a Caring Scholar and brings knowledge of genomics, big data, technology, and innovation to the current needs of often marginalized and overlooked populations.
