Assistant Professor

Dr. Nada Lukkahatai has a broad background in nursing, gaining years of experience as a clinical nurse and now as a nurse scientist. Her research focus is to understand the biological mechanisms in the symptom cluster. After earning her doctoral degree, she was trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the Symptom Science Unit, Division of Intramural Research, National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), and National Institutes of Health (NIH) for 3 years. She served as a biomarker expert (co-investigator) on two federal funded studies to examine the feasibility of the four weeks auricular point acupressure (APA) intervention on managing of the chemotherapy-induced neuropathy (CIN) among cancer survivors and pain among persons with Alzheimer disease. She planed the study design, biological data collection and experiment, and analyzing the biological data. With her knowledge on symptoms science and skills on conducting complex laboratory experiment, using sophisticated omics technologies, Dr. Lukkahatai has published manuscripts that identify genomic and proteomic markers that can be used as interventional targets for symptom management. She is currently interested in developing non-pharmacological interventions to reduce symptom burden and identifying the biological predictors for effectiveness of the non-pharmacological intervention on symptom cluster of pain-fatigue-depression.
