Research Fellow and Part-Time Lecturer
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
Singapore, Singapore
I am a research fellow and postgraduate tutor with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, part-time lecturer with the School of Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and Non-Executive Director of GeroPsych Consultants Pte Ltd. I am also a council member of the Gerontological Society of Singapore.
As an academic social scientist, I drive a pragmatic open-label clustered randomised controlled trial of electronic interventions that reduce cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes risk via lifestyle behavioural change. As an industrial social scientist, I investigate the predictors of proactive career behaviours among Singapore female health professionals and develop a career management programme that benefits these professionals. I also put other stakeholders on paths of success by advising on geropsychological programme evaluations, service designs and training delivery via private consultancy.
As an educator, I teach geropsychology to undergraduate and provide pastoral care to PhD students.
An entrepreneur, I co-founded a geropsychological consultancy and continue to participate in its compelling mission to propel health and well-being for successful ageing in Singapore. With a combination of business, education, and scientific know-how, I endeavour to bridge academia and industry, and scientific space and marketplace in the domains of geropsychological ageing and care.
In Singapore, I practised as a psychologist in the public social and healthcare sectors, before specialising in geropsychology in the private sector, and more recently, in academia. I advocate for the well-being of older adults and their caregivers via scientific journals, advisory panels, mainstream media, and social media. I have published on informal caregiving and caregiver well-being and have reviewed manuscripts for nine scientific journals in the past five years. Most recently, my paper on the macroeconomic realities of and measures for informal caregiving in Singapore was cited in the Singapore Parliament during the debate on Singapore Women’s Development White Paper.
