Andrea Yevchak Sillner, PhD, GCNS-BC, RN is an Assistant Professor in the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing at Penn State University. She is a geriatric nurse scientist and has a funded interdisciplinary program of research focusing on improving person-centered communication between older adults, their informal family caregivers, and formal healthcare providers across settings of care. Currently, Sillner is the principal investigator of the Prefrences for Technology Assisted Communication (P-TAC) project. The goal of this project is to develop and test a tool to assess older adults preferences for using technology to communicate with their formal healthcare providers. Influences of communication, and barriers and facilitators to using technology to communicate have also been explored as a part of this work. Her long-term goals are to develop interventions aimed at empowering older adults, particularly those with dementia, and their informal caregivers to have critical conversations with their formal healthcare providers in the community.
