Kenneth F. Ferraro is Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center on Aging and the Life Course at Purdue University. Professor Ferraro is the author of more than 135 peer-reviewed journal articles and two books focusing on health and aging. His recent research uses a life course framework to examine health inequality, especially racial and ethnic disparities, and the cumulative effects of early exposures on adult health. His articles appear in prestigious journals such as American Journal of Public Health, American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Journal of Gerontology (all 4 sections), Demography, Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Social Science and Medicine, and The Gerontologist.
Ferraro has twice founded multidisciplinary university centers that stimulate research on aging and confer graduate credentials in gerontology. He is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and a former editor of the Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences. He also is a former Chair of the Behavioral and Social Sciences section of GSA. He received the Robert W. Kleemeier Award and Distinguished Mentor Award from GSA and the Matilda White Riley Distinguished Scholar Award from the American Sociological Association. Ferraro also has twice won the Richard Kalish Innovative Publication Award from GSA (most recently for his book The Gerontological Imagination: An Integrated Paradigm of Aging).
