Nicholas A. Turiano is an Associate Professor of Life-Span Developmental Psychology at West Virginia University. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms connecting personality traits to a variety of health outcomes, such as mortality. Mechanisms of interest include substance use, physical activity levels, physiological function, and social connectedness. He also explores how adverse early life experiences impact personality development and health into adulthood. Exploring psychological resilience factors such as personality may help lead to effective interventions to improve physical, social, and well-being across the life span. As service to the professional community, he is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Research in Personality and on the editorial board at the Journals of Gerontology: Psychological Sciences.
