Assistant Professor
Meharry Medical College
Nashville, Tennessee, United States
Dr. Jamaine Davis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Cancer Biology and Neuroscience at Meharry Medical College. He completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at the University of Pennsylvania and completed his postdoctoral training at the National Cancer Institute in Maryland. Dr. Davis started his career conducting biomedical research to understand the basic science of human diseases, to help address why some people with develop diseases. One approach to address this question is to study how molecules in the cell, like proteins which are made from genes, lose their ability to function. When this happens, it can often lead to diseases, such as cancer and Alzheimer’s. The significance of his work will help to advance medicine by describing the exact way human genetic variations leads to disease. This information will then be used to design the most effective therapies to strategically target the proteins or molecules that causes disease in that specific patient. Dr. Davis has a longstanding interest in mentoring and community engagement to inspire and train the next generation of scientists and to help build trust in research/science.
