Dr. Wei Zhang is the Chair and a professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Trained as a medical sociologist, her primary research interest is to examine health disparities among Asian Americans and among older adults using secondary data analysis. She has extensive experience in population-based studies and has published close to 50 peer-reviewed articles in top tier journals such as The Gerontologist, Social Science & Medicine, Health & Place, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, and Aging and Mental Health. Her expertise of focusing on social factors (i.e., social connections, socioeconomic status, neighborhood contexts, and immigration status) to interpret population health disparities make her sensitive to cultural barriers that may impede access and utilization of resources from the disadvantaged social groups.
