Danielle Powell, AuD, PhD completed her Doctorate of Audiology in 2013 from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill and subsequently worked as a clinical Audiologist in the greater Washington D.C. area. She was based at the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates (2014-2017) before starting her PhD coursework in the Department of Epidemiology
at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where she completed her PhD in 2021. Her PhD doctoral research focused on hearing loss and late-life mental health, including the influence of hearing loss on late-life depression and cognitive decline/dementia. She currently serves as a post-doctoral fellow on an NIH funded training program for Health Services and Outcomes Research for Aging Populations. As a post-doctoral fellow, she is working to expand on her research investigating the association between hearing loss and cognitive decline to understand the influence of hearing loss on hearing health care interactions and health care communication and care-delivery for those with dementia, the influence of hearing loss on caregiving and caregiving roles, and strategies to support care givers and older adults with hearing loss and dementia through person-centered hearing care. Dr. Powell has numerous publications and has presented at many national conferences, serves on the editorial board for many hearing and aging related peer-reviewed journals. She was recently awarded a pilot grant from the Hopkins’ Economics of Alzheimer’s Disease Center in support of her research.
