Postdoctoral fellow
University of California, Los Angeles
Los Angeles, California, United States
My research focus and clinical experience is anchored in the examination of underlying mechanisms of complex neurodegenerative diseases and aging. I am currently a postdoctoral fellow in the department of Human Genetics at UCLA, with funding from the NIH F32 fellowship. I am immersed in the research of the influence of sex hormones on aging and neurodegenerative disorders using genomic data with an emphasis on DNA methylation and Mendelian Randomization analyses.
Before embarking on my PhD, I was a medical resident in pediatrics and clinical genetics in university hospitals in The Netherlands. During my residencies, I conducted research on childhood outcomes, with a special focus on associations and risk factors of neurodevelopmental delays in preterm infants. Throughout my studies at UCLA, I changed my focus from childhood outcomes to neurodegenerative disorders and have worked and studied with renowned academics such as, Drs. Beate Ritz and Christina Lill..
During my post-doctoral training, I am continuing to build upon my clinical experience and epidemiological research. I increased my understanding of cutting-edge genomics investigatory methods, collaborated with a broad range of experts, and maximize the combination of several large studies. Over the last year, I have started to focus more extensively how sleep influences aging, the methylome and neurodegeneration.
