Dr. Wright has expertise, leadership, training, in chronic stress and self- care interventions across the lifespan. She is also a NIA Butler-Williams Scholar and a Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Scholar (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation). Dr. Wright’s program of research focuses on interventions that impact the complex interplay of hypertension and chronic stress. Specifically, she examines risk reduction of cognitive decline through stress management and blood pressure control in African Americans--including “Addressing the double jeopardy of stress and hypertension among African American female caregivers of persons living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (1R21AG077069-01 NIA)” The work that Dr. Wright has pursued cuts across several of the National Institutes of Health, Health Disparities Research Framework—levels of analysis. These have included examining chronic stress, discrimination stress, nutrition, physical activity, cardiovascular health (blood pressure), and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function (hair cortisol).
Dr. Wright believes in mentoring with patience and leading by example. As a result, she has successfully mentored peers and students to obtain 2) Kl2 awards; 3) provide podium presentations and local, regional, and national conferences, and 4) completion of Doctor of Nursing Practice defenses.
