Dr. Bronas is an Associate Professor in Biobehavioral Health at the College of Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His research career is dedicated to develop sustainable interventions to prevent and manage chronic disease. He has served as a principal investigator and co-investigator on multiple NIH and Foundation funded randomized controlled trials. Dr. Bronas is a member of the executive leadership on the NIH-funded, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia designated Roybal Center for Healthy Aging (NIA-P30AG022849), which is focusing health disparities and cognitive decline in minority groups. Dr. Bronas has developed interventions for patients with in patients with diabetes (R01DK130049, R01MD015724-01A1), cardiovascular disease (R01 HL090854I), dementia (R01AG043392), COPD (VA RR&D, Grant 12527279), and kidney disease. Dr. Bronas has received numerous research awards for his work. He is an active Fellow of the American Heart Association and a serves as a member of the leadership of the Peripheral Vascular Disease Council. Dr. Bronas is an active Fellow of the Society for Vascular Medicine and a member of the clinical guidelines committee.
Dr. Bronas directs the Laboratory of Cognitive and Vascular Health, and he is the Chair of the Cardiometabolic Research Group at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Nursing. Dr. Bronas has a vibrant research program investigating cognitive and vascular function, brain structure, and neural network plasticity before and after exercise training in patients with chronic kidney disease and mild cognitive impairment (NIA-R01AG076456). He is investigating the impact of environment and daily experiences on physical activity and dietary habits (R01AG062180), and the impact of stress reactivity on racial/ethnic disparities in cognitive function in midlife (NIA-R21AG069435). His work has expanded to include prevention of age-related cognitive decline and neural networks in older Latinos and Latinas in the Chicago community (P30AG022849).
