Matthew Morgan is a second-year doctoral student. He received his B.S. in psychology (2012) and M.S.W. (2015) from Virginia Commonwealth University. Matthew’s research interests focus on gerontology, specifically loneliness and social isolation among older adults, caregiver burden as well as hospice and end-of-life issues. He is also interested in issues of health equity, including access to health care services and supports for low-income and underserved populations.
Matthew worked in a multicultural health lab during his undergraduate studies, where he developed his passion for gerontological work. In the M.S.W. Program, he interned at a hospice agency and the Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services. After graduating, Matthew worked as a hospice social worker for four years and as a co-lead of the COVID-19 Navigation Unit at the Richmond City Health District for one year.
Matthew is a proud father of a one-year old, who gives him plenty of excuses for play breaks. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with his family.
