Stacy Andersen, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. She is a behavioral neuroscientist and expert in the neuropsychological assessment of older adults who leads neurocognitive phenotyping protocols across multiple studies of longevity and healthy aging.
A primary area of her research focuses on investigating correlates of the ability to avoid dementia throughout life. As the multiple PI of the Resilience/Resistance to Alzheimer’s Disease in Centenarians and Their Offspring (RADCO) project, she studies the subgroup of exceptional centenarians who, in spite of their advanced age which is a major risk factor for dementia, remain cognitively healthy until the end of life. By incorporating neuropsychological, neuropathological, and neuroimaging assessments with environmental, lifestyle, and genetic data as well as translational studies, she hopes to identify factors that preserve cognitive function.
Another area of her work focuses on the implementation of digital technologies to capture spoken language and motor function and qualitative features of neuropsychological test performance. She aims to identify subtle metrics of preclinical cognitive impairment and more sensitive measures of cognitive decline.
