Ward Heij is a Dutch physical therapist with a specialization in geriatrics. He finished his Bachelor's education in 2014 at the Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. In 2016, he graduated magna cum laude in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physical Therapy in geriatrics from the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Belgium.
After working as a physical therapist in a nursing home, he pursued a PhD at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. His research focused on the implementation of Coach2Move, a physical therapeutic approach for community-dwelling older adults. Coach2Move combines scientifically proven modalities as shared decision making, motivational interviewing and systematically monitoring & feedback to increase physical activity level and optimize self-efficacy of older adults. Ward's research showed favorable effects of Coach2Move in comparison with regular physical therapeutic treatment.
Since early 2022, Ward is employed at the University of Utah as a postdoctoral research fellow. His research centers around person centered communication skills and implementation science.
