Deborah Waldrop practiced as a clinical social worker in a variety of healthcare settings including acute, emergency and intensive care, rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, long term care and hospice) before earning her PhD in human enviromental science with a certificate in gerontology in 1999. She served on faculty of the University at Buffalo School of Social Work from 1999-2022. Deborah taught courses in health, serious illness care and loss and grief. She developed the UBSSW's Hartford Partnership in Aging Education and a microcredential in Serious Illness care; both programs offered additional classroom to field experiences for advanced year social work students. Deborah conducted research about the needs of people who are nearing the end of life and their family members, hospice decision-making and advance care planning. Her research was driven by her experiences at the bedsides of people who were seriously ill and she strove to conduct research that would make a difference in the ways we care for people who are dying and their families. All of her research projects were conducted collaboratively with community agencies or hospitals and community practitioners as partners. Deborah is a Fellow of the GSA and serves as the 2022 Chair of the SRPP Section.
