Walter Dawson, DPhil, is a lifelong advocate for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and their family care partners. He is an Assistant Professor at the NIA-Layton Aging and Alzheimer's Disease Center at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine and a Senior Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health with the Global Brain Health Institute. He is also faculty at the Portland State University Institute on Aging. His research focuses on the intersection between macro-level health policy and health services research focused on supporting individuals living with dementia from underserved populations. Dawson’s research has been supported by the National Institute on Aging, Commonwealth Fund, Alzheimer’s Association, and Atlantic Institute. Dawson also has extensive direct experience in U.S. state and national policy including as working as staff at the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging. More recently, Dawson was appointed co-lead of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's (OECD) Working Group on Brain Health Diplomacy and Chair of the Oregon Governor's Commission on Senior Services.
