Theresa Allison is an MD geriatrician and a PhD ethnomusicologist (music anthropologist) who studies the intersection of music, well-being, dementia and relationships. Her current projects include a longitudinal, ethnographic study of music and daily life in dementia caregiving relationships (PI), an investigation of whether music improvisation training can improve cognition for older adults with and without mild cognitive impairment (co-Investigator, Julene Johnson, PI), and a qualitative assessment of a novel program to support aging in place (co-investigator, Louise Aronson, PI). Dr. Allison is a Professor of Medicine in the University of California, San Francisco Division of Geriatrics, with a secondary appointment in Family and Community Medicine. She provides clinical care for older veterans with complex chronic medical conditions through the San Francisco VA Health Care System.
