Iowa City, Iowa, United States
I graduated with my PhD in Nursing degree at the University of Maryland-Baltimore, and I am currently an Associate Professor in the University of Iowa College of Nursing. My primary program of research focuses on optimizing mealtime difficulties, food intake, function, nutrition, and quality of life for older adults with dementia through dissemination and promotion of person-centered mealtime care among formal and informal caregivers in varied settings. My current research focuses on examining the role of interpersonal- and environmental-level factors and developing/testing behavioral interventions to optimize mealtime care. My secondary program of research focuses on tool development and validation. Particularly, I have developed and/or validated multiple observational instruments to assess staff-resident verbal and nonverbal interaction in dementia mealtime care as well as other health care fields including occupational health, oral health, health education, and behavioral science. My research has been funded by American Nurses Foundation and NIH/NIA. I have achieved a highly successful and proliferative track record of 44 peer-reviewed high-quality publications in top-tier journals and given more than 60 presentations at local, regional, national and international conferences.
