Debra Saliba, MD, MPH, AGSF holds the UCLA Anna & Harry Borun Endowed Chair in Geriatrics and is a physician scientist with the GLA VA GRECC and Associate Director for Education for the GLA VA HSR&D Center of Innovation, where she directs the GLA VA National Clinician Scholars Program and the GLA Advanced Fellowship in Health Services Research. She is also a is a Senior Natural Scientist at RAND. A nationally recognized expert in geriatric assessment & quality, Dr. Saliba’s research has created tools & knowledge that can be applied to improving quality of care & quality of life for vulnerable adults with long-term care needs across the care continuum. Her research has addressed a broad range of clinical, quality & public health topics and has been funded by VA HSR&D, NIH, CMS, ASPE, AHRQ, California DHHS & several foundations. A major theme of this work, including development of the VES-13 survey and revision of the Minimum Data Set (MDS 3.0) for nursing homes, has been giving voice to older adults & persons with disabilities in assessments of their health & healthcare.
Dr. Saliba is past President and Board Chair of the American Geriatrics Society and her research has been recognized by VA HSR&D, the American Geriatrics Society, and the Journal of American Medical Directors Association. In addition to her recent membership on the National Academy of Science Committee on Nursing Home Quality, Dr. Saliba serves on the CMS Nursing Home 5-Star Technical Advisory Panel, the National Quality Forum (NQF) Committee on Person and Family Centered Care and the NQF committee on Post-acute and Long-term care. She currently serves on the editorial boards of The Gerontologist and the Journal of American Medical Directors Association and as Executive Editor of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
