Pre-doctoral T32 trainee
University of Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States
My name is Lauren S. Roe, MS and I am a Pre-Doctoral T32 Aging Trainee at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health working under the direction of Dr. Jane Cauley, DrPH. My background is in health and exercise science. I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Elon University in 2016, immediately follwed by completion of my master's degree in Health and Exercise Science from Wake Forest University in 2016 under the mentorship of Kristen Beavers, Ph.D, MPH, RD. Working as a clinical research specialist in Cleveland, OH at University Hospitals for two years following my Wake Forest training affirmed my interest in pursuing advanced training in clinical research methodology. I began my training at the University of Pittsburgh as a Graduate Student Researcher from 2020-2021, then transitioned to a T32 trainee at the beginning of 2022. For my dissertation, I have an active interest in studying the association between 24-hour composition of daily activities with falls, fractures, physical performance, and mitochondrial function in older adults. I will explore these topics rigorously as I work to develop and complete my dissertation training in 2023. My continued participation in GSA meetings throughout my doctoral training will help me develop skills and expertise necessary to acheive my long term career goal of becoming an independent research scientist in the field of aging, working towards optimizing health and function with age.
