City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center
Named one of the “Top Doctors” for oncology by Pasadena magazine since 2011, Joseph Chao, M.D. joined City of Hope in 2007 as a Fellow and subsequently recruited on faculty in 2010 where he is currently an Associate Professor with expertise on stomach and esophageal cancers. He is currently leading clinical trial efforts to develop novel therapies for gastroesophageal cancers, and is also conducting research to better understand intratumoral heterogeneity in this disease. His research has been recognized by the NIH Paul Calabresi Career Development Award in Clinical Oncology for ongoing projects in immunotherapeutics and the development of novel gastric cancer biomarkers. Dr. Chao’s expertise has helped shape national treatment guidelines where he serves on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) panels for Gastric and Esophageal Cancers and is the current academic co-chair for Elsevier/Via Oncology Pathways in gastroesophageal malignancies.
