ACA Connects
Matt Polka oversees the daily operations and affairs of ACA Connects-America’s Communications Association (ACAC), a 700 member, non-profit advocacy association dedicated to serving smaller- and medium-sized, independent broadband, phone and video businesses that serve more than 10 million broadband customers nationwide. ACA Connects represents its Members’ and advocates their concerns before Congress, the Federal Communications Commission, and other agencies in Washington, D.C. Matt joined ACAC as its first president on May 1, 1997. He is in Washington frequently meeting with Members of Congress and the FCC as well as testifying on ACAC’s members’ behalf.
Prior to joining ACAC, Matt was VP/General Counsel for Star Cable Associates from 1990 97, managing the legal and regulatory functions for the company’s smaller cable systems in seven states, and practiced law from 1986 90 representing independent cable businesses in corporate transactions and programming negotiations.
Matt is a 1982 honors journalism/news editorial graduate of West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va., where he was named the Society of Professional Journalists graduate of the year, and a 1986 graduate of Pittsburgh’s Duquesne University School of Law where he was the School’s most distinguished graduate.
Matt is a well-known speaker in the industry visiting with groups, associations and Members across the country talking about policies and politics in Washington and many industry issues and topics. In 2009 he was named a Cable Television Pioneer, and in 2019 he was named a Pathfinder for the Mid-America Cable Association. Matt for many years has also been a member of the CableFax Top 100.
