Throughout our careers, we are exposed to various theories of leadership - many of them rather abstract - and this session might add a few more theories to the portfolio. But don't worry, we will look at some interesting aspects of field theory and social identity theory that have an impact on practice. Central aspects that we will look at are prototypicality (i.e. how well do I fit in with the majority of the group) and stereotypes (i.e. what is expected of these group members). This workshop will look at these theories from different angles to find out how someone who belongs to a minority and is therefore not a prototypical member of the majority can be a successful leader of this group.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn about or recap leadership theories in general.
Participants will be introduced to social identity theory and the field theory.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how these theories impact them as leaders.
