Chief Johnson was hired by CCFES in March of 1994. Chief Johnson has worked his way through the ranks as a Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, was appointed to Deputy Chief of Preparedness in May of 2016, and appointed to serve as Fire Chief on August 11, 2020. In addition to his firefighter certifications, Chief Johnson is also a Paramedic. Prior to joining the fire department, Chief Johnson worked part-time for Cobb County Parks and Recreation at Fair Oaks Park.
Chief Johnson has an Associate’s degree in Fire Science from Chattahoochee Technical College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University. Within his years serving as Deputy Chief of Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services, Bill has completed the Excel Management Development Program through UGA, participated in Leadership Cobb 2019, was selected as Co-Chair of the SafeKids Cobb County/Department of Public Safety Golf Tournament, and became a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Since becoming Fire Chief, he was chosen, participated, and completed the Honorary Commanders program hosted by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. Chief Johnson is a founding committee member of the United Leadership Program, a current instructor for the Courageous Conversation Diversity Training program, and a lifetime Silver Member of the NAACP. A lifelong resident of Cobb County, Chief Johnson currently resides in West Cobb with his wife, Kristi, and their two children.
