Fire Chief Spotsylvania Fire, Rescue & Emergency Management, Virginia
This presentation centers around the expectations we have of one another in the fire service, looking into the differences and similarities that exist between those expectations, depending upon whether we are in a supervisory position or are being supervised. Additional attention will also be paid to the three domains of transformative leadership and learning (cognitive, psycho-motor, and affective),and how they impact our ability to meet the expectations of those we lead. The presentation also contains the general expectations I as Chief have established for all personnel within my own department.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the greater number and types of similarities that exist in the expectations of those in leadership positions and those being led, by reviewing the results of an informal survey.
Learn and understand the three domains of transformative leadership (cognitive, psycho-motor, and affective) and how each provides value to the goal of being a good leader that both meets expectations and is able to set and communicate expectations of their own.
The students will learn how to set expectations for those they lead, by observing examples provided by my personal experience and actions in developing and communicating department-wide expectations.
