Those who embrace the notion that it is indeed a privilege to lead may struggle a bit with the notion that many societal privileges play a role in their leadership approach and their duty to understand how best to use their position of leadership, influence, and privilege to shift the fire service culture to one that truly supports diversity, equity, and inclusion within our workplace and community.
This program will use facilitative learning and participation to identify, explore, and understand the role privileges play in one’s agency and how to most effectively use whatever privileges you may have to the benefit of all. This program is to raise awareness and avoid blaming anyone for the privileges they may or may not have.
Learning Objectives:
Identify, explore, and understand the privileges associated with gender in the fire service.
Identify, explore, and understand the privileges associated with race in the fire service.
Identify, explore, and understand the privileges associated with ableism in the fire service.
Gain an awareness of our inherent “privilege blindness”.
