The interactive course will utilize the IAFC's Succession Management Document and t he NFPA 1021 standard to outline training, education, and key experiences needed to be successful at promotions. The many pathways and educational opportunities present in today's fire service can be overwhelming. Envisioned at a COLS class, the students will be introduced to IAFC classes, NFA classes, IAFF Classes, State Level Training, as well as educational programs and the reason for the various degree levels. Next, participants will be introduced to key experiences, such as job shadowing and mentoring. Lastly, participants will review the typical steps to promotional processes and what raters are looking for in each part.
Learning Objectives:
Introduce students to the various training and education opportunities and how these relate to the NFPA 1021 levels.
Through utilization of results from the IAFC's Succession Management Document, show students the other elements needed to be successful in a promotional transition.
