Principled Leadership is a concept that will change organizations and their personnel when the time is devoted to nurturing it at all ranks. When we focus on the 7 characteristics of principled leadership listed below from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, the development of all personnel is evident. As leaders, we are responsible for developing people both personally and professionally. Principled Leadership allows a leader to do this, while simultaneously developing themselves and assisting the organization in building a better leadership culture. L - Lead with humility. E - Embrace a true, authentic self. A - Act and speak with courage. D - Develop and value people and resources. E - Empower and hold others accountable. R - Respect others by building trust and learning from mistakes. S - Serve others before self.
