This program will explore modern-day education techniques to better understand the most effective medium and instructional methods to communicate and pass on knowledge and traditions of the fire service. Observations show that fire service instructional styles have not advanced at the same pace as those in mainstream school systems. With 4 very different generations in the fire service, our training effectiveness has suffered due to a lack of true instructor and officer development. This program will examine ways to improve.
Learning Objectives:
Understanding that our modern day firefighters (learners) are not designed to learn as they did in the past.
Evaluate and understand the style of learners that they will be teaching to include a study of generational differences.
Better understand the role of the millennial firefighter and how to tap into their potential instead of labeling them as the problem. We will also discuss how instruction is a live, changing, and adaptive medium, and how the primary objective of any class we teach is to pull out the information that is actually needed to master the subject matter and present that to the class.
