A principle role for fire services executives is to make key organizational decisions. We are often judged and critiqued about what decisions are made; however, we rarely examine how we make those decisions. Our brains often lead us astray through various decision biases and heuristics that may not lead us to the optimal decision. This session will unpack the components of decision making and how executive officers can improve their decision making by moving from an intuition-based to an informed, evidence-based decision environment. By being a deliberate architect of the executive decision environment, executive officers can improve the decision quality within the organization.
