Deputy Chief of Operations Washington Township Fire Department Centerville, Ohio
I will be discussing the difficulty of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for staff officers whose primary environment is their office. Using direct observation and my experiences, it has become clear that staff officers are often left out of the equation when delivering wellness programs. Even the fittest members have found it problematic to maintain their fitness once they take a desk job; however, in order to send the message that fitness is vital to our members, chief officers must lead from the front. Key takeaways from this session are recognizing that you or your officers may fall into this category and what can be done to assist your staff officers in developing or maintain their fitness levels when their jobs are not conducive to it.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will recognize the need for health and wellness initiatives in their staff personnel to overcome the so-called "desk bod."
Participants will identify gaps in their current health and wellness programs relative to all members of the department, not just operational/line members.
Participants will be able to formulate plans for change to the program and overall culture within their department.
