If we cannot manage ourselves, we cannot lead others. In our high stress and high stakes profession, controlling our emotions can be difficult. Exercising emotional intelligence in our day to day interactions as well as on emergency scenes is vital to our success as officers and incident commanders. In this session, we will discuss how our emotions can over ride reason leading to reduced credibility as a leader, and offer some tips for how to take control allowing you to choose response over reaction.
Learning Objectives:
The participant will better understand emotional intelligence (EQ) and why it is as important as intelligence (IQ) in leadership positions.
The participant will know and understand the idea of consciously choosing between a response or a reaction.
The participant will know and understand the concept of escaping to the balcony as a way to gain control in stressful situations.
