With 64 million Americans – 1 in every 4 people – living with a disability, financial planning professionals will want to understand the need to plan differently for this population and their families.
In this talk, Cynthia Haddad will give an overview of these differences and present specific retirement income and estate planning strategies, along with analytical tools to help clients in making planning decisions. The presentation includes applications of the SECURE Act, proper use of Special Needs Trusts, ABLE and 529 accounts, and how longevity has turned planning for 2 generations into planning for 2 retirements as well.
Learning Objectives:
Identify how special needs planning differs from planning for a typical family, and how to recognize and help families prepare for the challenges – the special needs planning pressure points - that may arise at each life stage of a child with disabilities.
Know how to access and apply various planning tools, strategies, and information specific to special needs planning to analyze a family’s unique situation and help them prioritize their goals and make decisions.
Address the emotional impact on families feeling overwhelmed and uncertain of their child’s future needs by helping them to move forward and begin to plan.
