This on-demand Symposium covers the most recent evidence on the immune responses that safeguard barrier integrity. The interplay between immune cells and microbiota will be discussed, focusing on compartmentalized interactions and exploring the crosstalk between distant districts (gut, liver, brain, lung). Dysfunctions of barrier immunity will be highlighted in autoimmunity, asthma, and infections, and vaccinal strategies rescuing barrier integrity will be discussed.
