Dr. David Meurer started his EMS career as an EMT with Harbor City Volunteer Ambulance Service in Melboourne, Florida in the late 1970s. He subsequently worked for Jefferson County Ambulance Service in North Florida. During that tenure, he obtained his AEMT from the Paramedic Program at South Georgia Medical Center. After challenging and passing his Florida Paramedic Boards, he worked at Tallahassee Memorial Medical Center. He also attending the Program in Medical Sciences at Florida State University, matriculating to the University of Florida College of Medicine. Upon graduation from UF, he did a transitional Internal Medicine Internship leading to his Emergency Medicine Residnecy at UF Health Jacksonville. There he had EMS rotations with Jacksonville Fire Rescue and Sunstar Paramedics in Pinellas County. During his senior resident year, he served as the medical director for Century Ambulance Service. Upon graduating from his EM residency, he moved to Gainesville Florida where he worked at UF Health Shands.During his stay there he worked as medical director for Alachua County Fire Rescue, then as the Hazardous Materials Team Medical Director for Gainesville Fire Rescue. He eventually became the medical director for the entire Gainesville Fire Rescue. He also has served as the medical director for ShandsCair Adult Pediatric Team, the UF based flight service. He has served on the State of Florida EMS Advisory Council, and in 2007 was recognized as the AMPA Air Medical Director of the Year. Currently, he board certified in both Emergency Medicine and EMS, and serves as core faculty for the Emergency Medicine residency and the EMS fellowship at UF. He continues as the medical director of ShandsCair, and proud to be a team member there.
