My journey in EMS began, like so many others in this field, quite by accident. The local volunteer fire department on the outskirts of Albuquerque, NM was looking for volunteer staff. As you know, once you get the 'bug'; EMT school, more pre-hospital experience, nursing school... I was fortunate to work at an academic medical center for 18 years, with most of those in flight. Leadership opportunities presented new challenges, which lead to MTLI attendance, graduate school, and a change of employment to Med-Trans Corporation in 2012.
I currently work in the fascinating field of Patient Safety. It combines aviation, clinical issues, human factors, just culture and CRM. Being part of substantive change at the individual, base and organizational level is very rewarding.
