Master Police Officer, K9 Handler
Tampa Police Department
Tampa, Florida, United States
MPO Martinez has been in Law Enforcement for 27 years. She has been a Tampa Police Department K9 Handler for 11 years and has worked two Belgian Malinois, K9 Taz (retired) and K9 Ronin (active), in dual certification roles of apprehension and explosive ordinance detection. MPO Martinez and her K9 partner are responsible for assisting the Officers at TPD in apprehending felony criminals. They are also responsible for ensuring the safety of the community before, during and after the numerous events, concerts, parades, and sporting venues within the city and surrounding areas. The Tampa Police Department K9 Unit has 20 handlers each assigned a separate K9 Partner who they work and live with on a continuous basis. Our K9 partners are more than a tool in our backseat. They become an extension of each of us a Law Enforcer. They are our family. Those of us who work a K9 know that they will give their life with a single command for their human partner whether it be challenging a violent criminal or searching for a bomb or narcotics. We appreciate your willingness to educate yourself and others about treating, transporting, and potentially saving the life of our K9 partners. The words Thank You....would never be enough.
