Christina Shelton RN, BSN, CCRN, CEN, NR-P, CMTE is the Education and Outreach Coordinator for Duke Life Flight and has been a valued member of Duke’s transport team for 17 years. As a critical care transport registered nurse, Christina has held various positions within Life Flight including staff nurse, Clinical Team Lead, and Nurse Manager of Operations.
Christina began her career in Emergency Services as a Paramedic in (1993) and later with her Associate degree in Applied Science-Emergency Medical Service/Paramedic from Sandhills Community College (1998). She advanced her education as a registered nurse (RN) and obtained her Bachelors in Nursing from Winston Salem State University (2003). As a RN in (2000), Christina transitioned to the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care unit while working part time as a Paramedic and later joined Duke Life Flight (2005).
In addition, Christina is a Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE), Nationally Registered (NRP) and a Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program Paramedic (CCEMTP). She is a North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services Level II Paramedic Instructor and holds certifications in both Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) and Emergency Nursing (CEN).
Throughout her career, Christina has focused on quality educational opportunities for both her team and North Carolina EMS partners. After suffering the tragic loss of her Life Flight friends and colleagues on 9/8/17, Transport Provider Preparedness (TPP) became her extreme passion. Since that time, Christina has been a consultant, national presenter on TPP and Line of Duty Deaths and has co-authored a book chapter on Post Incident Preparedness. It is through her past experiences and loss that Christina continues to strive to bring greater awareness to the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service industry and first responder communities regarding safety and provider preparedness.
