Clinical Psychologist Dr.Joan Neehall and associates University of Toronto Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Anxious people are often looking to feel calm and relaxed, and while this is a worthy goal, it's not enough. Too often, calmness is achieved through avoidance and distraction, inadvertently supporting the anxiety. Hypnotic interventions can effectively introduce and develop the skills that most anxious clients lack, and interrupt the patterns that keep the disorder in charge. These skills include the ability to observe and shift anxious narratives, tolerate uncertainty, and shift the stance away from avoidance. Homework assignments are then given that activate the skills seeded with hypnosis, making for powerful interventions.
