Principal Restoration Ecologist
AloTerra Restoration Services, Colorado, United States
John built a decades-long career restoring degraded ecosystems throughout the Western
US, but his dedication to conservation and sustainable economics runs deeper. In the late ’80s he embarked on a quest for clues to a universal challenge—preserving earth’s ecosystems while meeting humanity’s economic needs. Inspired by growing protests against globalization at the turn of the century, John began the research and writing of Ecosystems as Models for Restoring our Economies. This work integrates thirty years of research and practice in ecology, business, economics, and conservation, revealing that the foundational components governing the health and resilience of ecosystems also govern
our economies. John has inspired hundreds of audiences across the Americas with his passion and deep experience in ecological restoration, and now turns his attention to a deeper conservation need: economic restoration.
