Session Description: This workshop will focus on handling spatial data and visualizing spatial data, using the statistics application R. Some topics to be covered in the workshop include: drawing maps and visualizing spatial data with the R package "ggplot2"; basic introductions to the R packages "sf" and "raster"; a brief introduction to the topic of spatial smoothing. This workshop is intended to be of interest to those with limited prior experience with R, as well as more experienced R users. The increased production and availability of ecological datasets where geographic coordinates have a particular importance means that spatial data skills can be anticipated as being useful in the continually changing landscape of ecological research.
