Masters Student
University of Windsor, Canada
My name is Ryan Graham and im a masters student from the University of Windsor and the Greal Lakes Institute for Environmental Research. I am supervised by Dr. Catherine Febria and works alongside a wide range of other projects in the newly created Healthy Headwaters Lab. My research focuses on the vegetational communities living in agricultural drainage systems and I plan to finish my masters at the by the end of 2022. I completed my undergrad at Fleming College and Trent University in Ecological Restoration where he explored central and northern Ontario, working on a variety of projects.
I am currently stuck trying to go in this next chapter of life, I do love research but i am signifcantly burned out after nearly 3 years of virtual schooling so academia is not a plan currently. I also am gravely concerned about the future of our planet, i am yet another young adult plagued with seeing article after article about the drastic changes that will happen very soon following global warming. I have been struggling to understand what i can directly do, how can restoration work with climate change, and how i can make a career that fullfils my wants.
I would love to talk to you about my research, the great lab that i am a part of, and anything recommendations for a young researcher soon to join the workforce. If i want to make actual change, participating in the last 10 years we have left, where can i do that? I know if i start at a conservation aurthority i will work as a technician on projects, but will that change much? The further i go down this "hole", the further i want to join policy and politcs, because thats where I hear the change is needed.
