Professor of Biology
Siena Heights University
Adrian, Michigan, United States
I was born and raised in Germany, and lived there most of my life. I received my "Diplom-Biologe" degree from the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in 1991, and my "Dr. rer. nat." degree in 1998 from the Universität Konstanz. I worked at the University of Mainz for four years before returning back to "The Freie Hochschule für Anthroposophische Pädagogik" to study secondary education in the Waldorf School tradition. In 2006, I emigrated to the USA and worked as a high school science teacher at the Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor before joining the faculty of Siena Heights University as an assistant professor of biology in 2010, as an associate professor of biology in 2017 and as full professor since 2022. I teach classes in ecology and evolution, vertebrate physiology, and human anatomy and physiology. My research focuses on the ecophysiology and behavior of Fox Squirrels and the biodiversity and community structure of coprophilous beetles.
